Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about nitrogen and oxygen generation systems.

Selection & Sizing

What's the payback period for a nitrogen generator?
Typical payback is 6–12 months. A small workshop consuming 10 Nm³/h of bottled nitrogen at $0.50/Nm³ saves ~$35,000/year with on-site PSA. The exact payback depends on your local electricity cost, nitrogen consumption, and bottled gas price.
How do I determine what size nitrogen generator I need?
Calculate your total nitrogen consumption: number of welding stations × flow per station (typically 8-15 Nm³/h each). Add 20% buffer for future expansion. For a food packaging line, check your MAP machine specifications. Contact us for a free sizing consultation.
PSA vs Membrane vs Cryogenic — which should I choose?
PSA is the best choice for 90% of industrial applications (95-99.999% purity, 1-5,000 Nm³/h). Membrane is cheaper but limited to <99.5% purity. Cryogenic is only cost-effective at very large scale (>5,000 Nm³/h). PSA offers the best payback for most buyers.
What purity do I need for laser welding?
Laser welding typically requires ≥99.99% nitrogen purity. For stainless steel, 99.9% may be sufficient. For titanium or aluminum, 99.999% is recommended. For precision electronics or medical device welding, use 99.999%+ with downstream purification.
PSA vs VPSA for oxygen — what's the difference?
PSA oxygen operates at pressure (0.3-0.5 MPa), best for small-medium demand (1-100 Nm³/h). VPSA operates under vacuum (0.03-0.1 MPa), uses 25-35% less energy, and is better for large continuous demand (50-5,000+ Nm³/h).

Installation & Setup

Do you provide installation support?
Yes. Detailed installation manuals, video guides, and optional on-site engineer support. Our PSA systems are pre-assembled skid-mounted — typical installation takes 1–2 days.
What site requirements do I need for a PSA nitrogen generator?
You need: (1) compressed air at ≥0.8 MPa (oil-free preferred), (2) 380V/50Hz 3-phase power, (3) floor space of 2.5-25 m² depending on model, (4) ambient temperature 5-40°C, (5) ventilation for heat dissipation.
How long does shipping and installation take?
Production: 5-8 weeks. Sea freight: 3-6 weeks depending on destination. Installation: 1-2 days on-site. Total timeline from order to production: approximately 10-16 weeks.
Can I install the system myself?
Yes — our systems are pre-assembled skid-mounted and come with detailed installation manuals and video guides. Most customers handle installation with their in-house maintenance team. Remote video support from our engineers is included. On-site engineer is optional.

Maintenance & Operation

How long do molecular sieves last?
With proper air pre-treatment (oil-free, dry compressed air), carbon molecular sieves typically last 5–8 years. Poor air quality (oil, moisture, dust) can reduce lifespan to 1–2 years. We offer sieve replacement services globally.
What regular maintenance does a PSA generator need?
Minimal maintenance: (1) Replace air filters every 4,000 operating hours, (2) Check O₂ analyzer calibration every 6 months, (3) Inspect valves annually (rated 1M+ cycles), (4) Replace molecular sieve every 5-8 years. No daily operator intervention needed — the system runs automatically.
Why is oil-free air important for PSA systems?
Oil is the #1 cause of premature molecular sieve failure. Even trace amounts from lubricated compressors coat CMS/Zeolite pores, irreversibly reducing adsorption capacity. Oil-free Class 0 (ISO 8573-1) compressors ensure maximum sieve lifespan (5-8 years).
How much does it cost to operate a PSA nitrogen generator?
Operating cost is ~$0.15-0.25/Nm³, primarily electricity. A 30 Nm³/h station consumes ~5.5 kW — about $0.02/Nm³ in electricity. The remaining cost is amortized CMS replacement, filter changes, and minimal labor. Compare to $0.50+/Nm³ for bottled nitrogen.
What purity should I expect from the O₂ analyzer?
Our built-in zirconia O₂ analyzer measures 0-25% with ±0.1% accuracy. It displays real-time residual oxygen (which corresponds to N₂ purity: 0.1% O₂ = 99.9% N₂). Programmable high-O₂ alarm with auto-shutdown option available.

Certifications & Compliance

What certifications do your systems have?
Standard: CE Marking, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001. Optional: ASME, ATEX/IECEx (for hazardous zones), FDA-compliant (pharma). Documentation provided for customs clearance.
Can your systems be used in hazardous areas?
Yes. We offer ATEX/IECEx certified versions for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas. Explosion-proof electrical components, flame arrestors, and special safety interlocks are included in the Ex-rated package.
What documentation do you provide for customs clearance?
Standard export package includes: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, CE certificate, ISO 9001 certificate, and material safety data sheets where applicable.
What's your warranty policy?
Standard warranty: 12 months from commissioning or 18 months from shipment, whichever comes first. Extended warranty available. Spare parts shipped within 48 hours. Remote technical support available 24/7.
